IN
THE BEGINNING...
Giraphics, established in March, 1987, was
one of the first desktop publishing companies in the East Texas area.
It was created out of necessity from the fallout of the oil and gas industry.
The previous year, many people who had been dependent on the industry,
including Eric and Carol Levy, suddenly became unemployed, unable to find
employment, and unable to sustain their standard of living as they had
known it.
As property values began to plummet, "For Sale
by Owner" signs were popping up all over the area. People were desperate
to sell their homes so they could move elsewhere to find employment and
get on with their lives. Something needed to happen here, but nothing
was moving. What these homeowners needed was a specialized marketing tool
to help them sell their homes, as most of them could not afford realtor
fees during this period.
That's when Giraphics was created. The main introductory
product was a monthly publication entitled For Sale By Owner. It was a
simple, black and white glossy magazine designed to help homeowners market
their homes using photos and a description of their home, with informative
articles and tips on how to present their home to prospective buyers.
This was a new concept in this area at that time, and it was very successful.
